How about a rating system based on reviews received from people you have carpooled with in the past? That way you can know something about the person you are thinking about carpooling with.

Some features are in the works that will add the ability to give feedback on a user.  One in particular will be simillar to the Facebook "wall" where users are able to post short messages on eachothers profiles.
